Drill: Beach Volleyball Double Juke Training for Defenders

Work on your defender skill set in Double Juke with this beach volleyball training video featuring AVP pro Mark Burik.

Also be sure to check out our full line of training programs, available now at BetteratBeach.com.

DRILL NAME: Double Juke

SKILL FOCUS: Defensive Tactics

MINIMUM PLAYERS REQUIRED: 3

BEGINNER FRIENDLY: Yes

INTENSITY: Medium

STYLE: Repetition Based

DRILL EXPLANATION: Player 1 is on the North side of the net acting as the hitter/feeder.  Player 2 and 3 will be on the opposite side of the net. Player 2 will be at the net acting as a blocker, and Player 3 will be in the court working on digging.  The point of this drill is to make a fake move to the line/cross during the attackers vision sequence of his approach. This normally takes place just before the attacker puts their last two steps of their approach.  Make sure after you make your fake move you get reset in the cross before making your move. You want the attacker to think that you...

Beach Volleyball Drills for Ball Control: 6 Guns

Beach Volleyball Drills for Ball Control: 6 Guns

6 Guns – 3 Versions

One of our favorite beach volleyball drills to warm up with is called 6 Guns. This drill is basically a test of who can react faster and do so cleanly and accurately. Let's take you through it.

V1: Speed Pepper

We can initiate 6 Guns with a version of Pepper where we pass, hit, set and spike low and fast and we're trying to test the edge of our partners speed and control limits

If we end up controlling this without accelerating, then we're going to get a little too comfortable. We want you to move in an uncomfortable speed where you're really testing your ability to react cleanly under pressure.

V2: Handcuff

The next version of 6 Guns that we have is called the Handcuff 6 Guns. It means you're only able to use a two handed forearm pass or a tomahawk. Make sure your hands never come apart and basically you're trying to tap your partner in the face, the nose, or the legs, or get it by them to...

When you go to practice, it's going to be up to you. Just say, I have to do my [inaudible] stomp before this person hit. This looks like Hermosa all right, so where are you?

Right?

This one here blocker

you?

Yeah. Okay. So you're the net protector right now. Okay. I see this.

Oh, I have to, I always move my feet right when they're hitting.

How do you think you can, you can stop that.

I have to like think about it in my head. I don't know.

Yeah, no, I agree...

Brandon Joyner:

With this video, what we're gonna do is we're going to talk about some tips that can hopefully lead to some points on some good float serve. Mark, did you know that you can score a point on your serve? Yes. You did know that? Yeah,

Mark Burik:

Man, I was second in the nation in ACEs per game 2008. 2008?!? Yeah, that's a while ago, but.. well you know.

Brandon Joyner:

Well, even though his answer was yes, it's probably because he's a stud on the volleyball court, but I think a lot of people, especially if you're a beginner or an...
