Passing, Serve & Serve-Receive

 
 

Drill 1 : 5-10 mins

  • Toss/Pass/Catch - Player 1 will be at the net and Player 2 will be in the court at serve receive position. Player 1 will toss straight to Player 2. Each player should pass for 2 minutes and then switch.

Drill 2 : 5-10 mins

  • Toss, Step-Shuffle, and Pass - Same as Drill 1, but tosses should alternate to the right and left of the passer. Focus on proper foot sequence. Each player should pass for 2 minutes and then switch.

 

 
 

Drill 3 : 5-10 mins

  • 6 Legged Monster - Same as Drill 2 but adding in 4 more locations. In this order, The passer should pass deep to the right, right, short right, short left, left, and deep to the left. Focus on proper foot sequence. Each player should pass at these six spots in order and continuously for 2 minutes and then switch. If you have a group of three, use one tosser and two passers who alternate after each round of 6.

Drill 4 : 10-15 mins

  • Triangle Passing (From other side of net) - 3+ Person Drill - Same as Drill 3 without specified locations and add a target/setter to catch and return and return balls to server. The tosser/downballer should try to make the passer move in all directions. If you have a lot of players on one court, use all four sections of the court and put the tossers behind the opposite service line. Passer(s) should pass to a target person for 2 minutes and then rotate within their groups.

 

 
 

Drill 5 : 10-15 mins

  • Over the Line Run To’s - Initiate with a toss or down ball over the net. The passer must pass the ball over their sideline, pursue it and pass back into the court and then pass back over the net. ***A higher level progression should allow the third pass to go to a setter who will set so the passer can spike

Drill 6 : 10-15 mins

  • Coach/Player Serve to Pass, Set, Hit - The ball should be initiated by a player serve (if players are consistent) or coach. Rotate players as needed
