Have you ever tried to move in the sand? Chances are that you have -- you wouldn't be reading this blog on beach volleyball if you haven't. So, because you know how difficult it is to move, you know, then, how imperative it is to be in the right spot -- you can't depend on blazing speed in the deep sands of Hermosa Beach or Manhattan Beach.
Your positioning has to be on point.
This goes for all aspects and positions in beach volleyball. If you're a defender, you need to be positioned correctly, with the proper balance, if you want to chase down the high line shots and pick up the cut shots. If you're a blocker, you need to be positioned well so you can make a good, balanced, pressing block -- not a diving, flailing block because you were out of position.
If you're passing, you need to be in the proper position so you can make a simple move to the serve and pass another dime for your setter.
Positioning and balance is everything in beach volleyball. It's the foundation of a rock solid game that will have you breaking pool and moving up the ladder in tournaments.
